Each holiday season, The Salvation Army engages in the tradition of "staffing the kettles" to promote the plight of the needy in the Columbia area. This practice is critical to The Salvation Army's cause, as the money it raises supports the organization’s programs for the rest of the year. Thanks to the generosity of thousands of Columbia area residents and businesses, The Salvation Army can continue to provide valuable programs to men, women, and families.
The Salvation Army's Christmas programs bring hope and comfort during the holiday season to families who experience poverty year round. Our Angel Tree program makes it possible for parents to share gifts with their children on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army's Christmas programs touched the lives of 7,978 people, more than 1,542 families, during Christmas 2010.
